Heda is a kindergarten teacher. Her income was so erratic during lockdowns that she and her husband needed to constantly reprioritise what they could spend on.

Heda said she felt uncertain about the future of her employment. The kindy she works for was reviewing her employment contract as COVID changed their workforce demand.

When we called Heda, we asked how we could make things better for the whānau. She said her teenaged daughter, May, who is on the spectrum, only had one school uniform which they wash as soon as she gets home so it could be dry and ready the next day. MSD would be able to help pay for uniforms but they would have to repay them back.

Through our partnership with Te Puni Kōkiri, we were able to purchase a complete set of uniform for May. Heda said the additional support meant a lot and helped alleviate the stress of preparing May's uniform, especially after a long day at work.
