It was an incredible experience for our connectors/kaitūhono to meet Prime Minister Chris Hipkins this morning in Mangere!

Our team shared with the PM the mahi we have done onsite and across Civil Defence Centres in Tāmaki Makaurau over the past four days, supporting disabled people/tāngata whaikaha and their whānau with disability needs, and much more.

The work is incredibly rewarding. We have supported people to relocate to new accommodation, provided disability supports, advocated for adaptive equipment, recognised gaps in emergency planning and worked with partners to provide proactive solutions.

Our teams on the ground have also gone above and beyond to help people who don't receive DSS assistance navigate supports, like ACC clients, refugees and the elderly.

Behind the scenes, our welfare team have made calls to people we support in areas most affected by the storm and floods, enabling us to connect them to vital services, resources, information and supporting their resilience during this challenging time.

We are proud of the hard mahi of our people, and grateful to the Prime Minister for taking time to kōrero with us. We look forward to continuing our work and making a difference in the lives of disabled people and their families.

If you have a disability and need flood support, email us at info@taikura.org.nz or call us on freephone 0800 824 5872.
