When you should get a Covid test

Last updated 19 October 2022

If you have cold, flu or COVID-19 symptoms, get a test as soon as you start to feel unwell. Doing a test and reporting the result means you can get the help you need as early as possibleVisit covid.govt.nz for the list of symptoms.

Anyone can get a FREE Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kit from collections, or can buy one from their nearest pharmacy. Find out more information about RATs

Supervised Covid testing for disabled people will be provided by selected community and disability health providers. Locations offering supervised RATs for priority populations can be found on the HealthPoint website

PCR testing will be reserved for people where it’s clinically indicated they need it. Note that if you get a positive RAT test, you don't need to take another PCR test to check if you really do have COVID.

For more information, visit the Manatū Hauora/Ministry of Health website.
